LAKELAND, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern softball team picked up the first game of a three-game series against Florida Southern College on Friday evening.
After three innings of scoreless play, the Sharks (23-23, 11-8 SSC) were the first to get on the board in the top of the fourth.
Dana Edmundson led off with a double to center field and after two outs, an RBI-single by
Alex Suzuki scored her for a 1-0 lead.
The Moccasins (14-22, 5-14 SSC) knotted the game in the home-half of the inning, using an RBI-single of their own to bring the score to 1-1.
NSU regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning, tallying three runs for a 4-1 advantage.
Sydney Lageyre led the inning off with a triple down the right-field line before
Erica Winter brought her home with a sacrifice fly to center.
Megan Maloney, the next batter, reached on an error by the Mocs before another triple, this time by
Mary Acosta, helped her cross the plate. An RBI-single by Edmundson plated Acosta, tallying the last run by the Sharks of the game.
Florida Southern attempted to rally, but fell short, coming within one run, 4-3, scoring two in the bottom of the fifth.
Edmundson led the Sharks on Friday night, finishing 3-for-4 with one RBI and scored run. Acosta was 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored run while Suzuki was 1-for-2 with an RBI of her own.
Lexie Storrer (17-10) returned to her winning ways, picking up the victory after 7.0 innings in the circle, allowing three runs on 11 hits with five strikeouts.
